4 Inventing Inspirations

A couple weeks ago I gave my readers 7 Ways to Come up with a Billion Dollar Idea as I was preparing to start the inventing process myself. Since that post I have come up with a number of good ideas, and I thought that I would share a bit about what inspired my ideas.

Think about your hobbies

A couple of my more promising ideas came directly from hobbies that I enjoy. Hobbies are a great source of inspiration because they are things we enjoy doing, and already have knowledge about what can be done better. They also tend to be places where we are not bound by rules or “best practices”, and this allows people to think outside of the box to create innovative ideas.

You know, for kids

Every day there are a ton of great ideas that are spawned when people build things that are fun for children. I believe there is a huge opportunity to teach children about emerging technologies with exciting hands on toys. Kids are learning faster than ever before, and it is really opening the doors for unique learning tools in all subjects.

There’s got to be a better way

Every single one of my ideas can be traced back to this thought. I think everyone is great at identifying problems, or things that annoy them. Take it a step further and figure out how to solve the problem so that you no longer have to complain about it.

Family, Friends, and Neighbors

Most people I know have a ton of really great ideas, but do not necessarily know how to make them work. If you come up with a brilliant solution to their idea, figure out if you can work with them to develop the idea. Or simply ask them if you can run with it yourself.

Now that I have a whole bunch of ideas, I need to narrow them down to one promising idea to focus on. Over the next couple weeks I will be posting updates on the process that I am using to decide which idea has the most potential.

My Goal

Decide upon one idea within the next three weeks.
