Aeroscraft – Redefining Transportation

Aerocraft

Most of the world’s largest cities grew to their sizes due to their close proximity to natural waterways and ports that allowed for easy transportation of goods by ship. In the United States, the West was conquered with railways. Airplanes and automobiles have effectively shrunk the world even more, but all of these have major limitations. Water and railway are very static in terms of where these ships and trains can travel. Airplanes need massive amounts of space for take off and landing, while even the largest trucks can only haul minuscule proportion of what a decent sized ship can carry.

In the very near future we will not be bound by these limitations thanks to the Aeroscraft airship. Part blimp, part helicopter, part airplane, this Aeroscraft will be able to take off and land vertically, travel at a velocity of at least120 mph, and carry a massive load of cargo or passengers long distances. Development of the Aeroscraft ML866, a smaller luxury craft began last year. This ML866 is said to have six turbojet fans that are used for vertical take off and landing, while it uses a combination of buoyancy, aerodynamics and propeller propulsion too keep it aloft. Although it looks like a blimp, the ship is not lighter than air, the helium filled area will only be able to lift two thirds of the craft’s weight.

When I become a Billionaire (it is Thinking Huge week), this will be the first thing on my list of things to buy. The ML866 is currently being marketed as an air yacht, with configurations that include personal living quarters, boardrooms, kitchens, and even lounges. Larger models have a huge market as cruise ships that could accommodate hundreds of tourists on very unique vacations. Let’s not forget the cargo potential, one large ship could haul the materials to build a Wal-Mart along with the merchandise to stock the store in one trip directly to the site location. 1. [...] Tuesday: A look at the airship that will change everything we think we know about transportation in the very near future. This is physically one of the largest inventions we will see for years. [...]

    2. Somehow, I don’t think that the Aeroscroft will redering transportantion. I think it will be a fantastic invention like Fuller’s Geodesic Dome, or the turbine powered car engine while utterly practical will have imagined weaknesses that will scare the public. I am not sure that it will take. It might be like the pneumatic powered car or air car where what is advertised is so fantastic that people will refuse to accept the invention. There are some inventions that don’t work because people simply are not ready to accept them mentally.

A look at the future of transportation that will conquer the skies in the very near future, and will probably become the most popular play toy of billionaires around the world….

    4. Nice invention, I wonder if I’ll still be around when this is marketed.
