Follow up on Pistorius

Last week at the Invention Pub, we started following the journey of Oscar Pistorius, the Blade Runner, and his bid to join the South African Olympic team in Beijing. In his final two qualification attempts, Oscar showed remarkable improvement in just two very short weeks cutting over a second and a half off from his first attempt. Unfortunately though, even a 46.25 second, personal best run in the 400 meters was not fast enough to qualify for the relay team this year.

Rumor has it that Pistorius has his sights set on the London Olympics in 2012, and I really hope that we get to root for him then. Also, I hope that the International Association of Athletics Federations not only upholds their decision to let Oscar compete, but also encourages further development of prostheses that enable everyone to compete on a level playing field. I have a feeling that we are going to see some pretty remarkable things from Pistorius even before the next Olympics in 2012.

By the way, London, 1985 called and they want their logo back.
