It's good that money is flowing back in again. Too bad Reagan stepped on the alternative energy movement in the early 80's. These problems were all well on the way of being solved.

More work needs to be done to make wind and solar power more reliable. The cost to generate power isn't as much of an issue for power companies as is the ability to predict the amount of power available from that source.

Wind and solar farms need to capture the power and then feed it to the power grid in a predictable pattern.

Jeff Millers last blog post..<a href="http://investmuse.blogspot.com/2008/07/what-will-government-do-about-fannie.html" rel="nofollow">What will the government do about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?</a>

Like I said in the post, part of Pickens Plan is to push money into the research and development of alternative energies. This is good news because the largest road block in developing alternative energy is a lack of funding. The perception has always been that alternative energies are bad investments, hence the term alternative. Pickens is important because he is the big stereotypical oil tycoon that can change this perception, and convince more investors to pump money into the development of these technologies.

Pickens has been very clear that yes indeed he does intend to make money, and again for this venture he must invest money to make money. But just because he has taken a very right wing capitalist approach to the issue, does not mean that he is not solving a serious crisis. In my opinion, he is doing a better job of solving the crisis by directly addressing the roots the problem than the liberals who are putting their faith in good documentaries.

That is probably an unfair statement towards liberals, but without capitalists there is no one to fund the ideas proposed in films like "An Inconvenient Truth." The involvement of Al Gore in recent meetings with Pickens is yet another indication that this guy is on the right track, despite any underlying motives.

As for Billionaires not helping Joe Average for free, I want you to know that philanthropy is not dead among billionaires. In fact I look up to many billionaires like Bill Gates who are actively helping the little guys, and I aspire to become a billionaire so that I can do the same.

How does him making millions or billions off his investments in wind farms and natural gas powered cars help inventors? this guy isn't in this for noble gestures.. he's in it to make as much money as he can and he's using the media hype and govt. to push his plans to make even more money.

Billionaires don't help Joe Average for free.. they're in it for big profit.
